Applies to all patients receiving telemedicine services through SevenHealth in the State of California.
What Is Telemedicine?
Telemedicine (also called “telehealth”) allows you to receive medical care using secure audio or video calls — without needing to visit an office in person.
Provider Qualifications
All telemedicine services at SevenHealth are provided by licensed healthcare professionals who are authorized to practice in California. Your provider will meet the same standard of care as during an in-person appointment.
Voluntary Use of Telemedicine
Telemedicine is completely optional. You may decline or withdraw your consent to use telemedicine at any time without affecting your ability to receive future care from SevenHealth.
Informed Consent
Before your first telemedicine visit, SevenHealth will:
- Explain what telemedicine is and how it works
- Discuss the risks and limitations (e.g., technology failures, inability to perform physical exams)
- Provide an opportunity to ask questions
- Obtain your informed consent — either written or verbal — and document it in your medical record
You will receive this information both through our intake forms and again during your appointment with a licensed provider.
Privacy and Security
Your personal health information is protected by law (HIPAA and California confidentiality laws).
SevenHealth uses a secure, encrypted platform to protect the privacy of your telemedicine sessions. No session will be recorded without your explicit consent.
Risks and Limitations of Telemedicine
- Technical issues may interrupt or delay your appointment
- Some conditions may require an in-person visit for full evaluation or treatment
- You may be asked to seek in-person care if your condition cannot be safely treated via telemedicine
Prescriptions and Follow-Up Care
If appropriate, your SevenHealth provider may prescribe medications during your telemedicine visit. Some medications may require additional evaluation or an in-person visit before they can be prescribed.
Emergencies
Telemedicine is not for use during medical emergencies. If you are experiencing a life-threatening emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.
Patient Rights and Responsibilities
As a patient using telemedicine, you have the right to:
- Be treated with the same respect and standard of care as in-person patients
- Ask questions and make informed decisions about your care
- Receive clear explanations about your treatment and any medications prescribed
- Withdraw consent for telemedicine at any time
You are responsible for providing accurate information and being available at your scheduled appointment time.
